Clay Imprints

This is an impression of the child’s hand and footprints in clay. We use “wet” clay to make the print which then is allowed to dry naturally. It is then fired in our kiln. We paint it and add writing according to your wishes before it is glazed and refired. The process takes about four weeks. We appreciate advance booking for this.

Plaster Outprints

This option uses a mould to make an impression of the child’s hand and footprint. The plaster cast is then made from this. We then paint it and add writing according to your instructions. The process takes about one week. We appreciate advance booking for this.

Painted Memories

This allows you to paint the child’s hand and footprints on almost any pottery item at The Clay Studio. Typical pieces are plates, mugs, photo frames and vases. A set of painted prints with a personal message makes a very special present for relatives or friends.

• Costs are the usual "per painter" Studio Fee and the price of the items you decide to paint.

It's a Boy / It's a Girl

Looking for an ideal present for a new mum? The Clay Studio's It's a Boy and It's a Girl baskets are a unique gift. Available in boy and girl versions, the package costs just £40.

Each gift basket contains the following:

• Bisque plate with voucher for baby's first painted hand and footprint - the parents are free to upgrade to a different piece of bisque or clay handprint or plaster outprint.

• Voucher to visit The Clay Studio and paint the plate.

• Useful gingham basket.

• Full instructions, glazing and firing.

• Cute teddy bear.

Pottery painting has proved to be a great way of remembering a baby or child’s early days. Our newest Painting Academy course has been designed for mums to have painting fun with their little ones and create four very special mementos or gifts.

Clay Babies runs every Tuesday at 10am and 2pm. Each four-week course is just £95 including all clay, pottery, paints, glazing & firing and tuition by trained The Clay Studio staff. The course is flexible so it is not necessary to attend every Tuesday, just let us know when you will be attending. Places on the Clay Babies course will be limited and advance booking is essential.

Mother & Baby Day

At The Clay Studio we have designated every Tuesday Mother & Baby Day. While you are free to visit every day, Tuesday is a day to meet other young mothers and relax over a coffee and more.

If you wish to paint on Tuesdays then there is a 50% discount on our normal Studio Fee.

Why not put a photograph of your baby on a plate or mug.  Choose your piece, send us the picture (either electronically or hard copy) and we can turn it into a transfer that you can add to your painted item.

The photo plates are fired twice so allow plenty of time for this.

We have bisque which is excellent for baby naming ceremonies. This includes baby, mugs and stork plaques.
