Keeping the children busy over Christmas!

Christmas is one of the most stressful times of the year, especially for busy parents. Thankfully, The Clay Studio opens its doors on 2 December 2006. The Clay Studio provides fun and creative inspiration for people of all ages and will provide important relief for parents as the school holidays approach.

Pottery painting is a timeless craft but it is becoming increasingly popular as a leisure activity. It provides hours of entertainment and brings out the artist in everyone – no particular artistic skill is needed and the helpful staff are there to assist as much or as little as is wanted. Customers also have a personal and lasting reminder of their visit, an ideal present for parents and grandparents.

The Clay Studio stocks a large range of functional bisque which can be used on a day-to-day basis such as mugs and plates. Alternatively, there are attractive designs and figurines which are ideal as presents, gifts and mementos. The Clay Studio also offers a customised service such as signing plates, ideal for weddings, christenings, etc. After you have chosen your item of bisque, find a theme for the painting – there are guides and our staff to help you – and start to create your masterpiece. Once you have finished, hand it to a member of staff who will glaze and fire it so that you can collect it a couple of days later. Amaze at the transformation.

The Clay Studio is the brainchild of Mary Payne. After 26 years working in human resources, most recently at Bournemouth & Poole College, she felt it was time for a change and a new challenge. Mary says:

“I have always wanted to do something creative which also benefits the local community. We are keen to support local businesses and local producers particularly so through our café range.

However, there is much more to The Clay Studio than painting pottery:

  • An ideal party venue, especially children’s birthday parties. We even have a dedicated party area!

  • Helpful, trained staff.

  • Unique gifts for Christmas or any occasion.

  • Kidz After-school Club and weekend Kidz art clubs.

  • “Drop and Shop” – leave your children to paint while you shop in Christchurch.

  • The Painting Academy evening courses to improve your painting skills from beginners to more advanced.

  • The Clay Studio Café for fine food & beverages, sourced, wherever possible, from local suppliers. Try a New Forest Cream Tea or Purbeck Ice Cream, for example.

  • The Clay Studio On the Move is our mobile pottery painting operation that can visit you, at your organisation or even at home. Look out for us at local events.

The Clay Studio opens in Christchurch on 2 December 2006. For a taster, The Clay Studio On the Move will be at the Christchurch Christmas Market during the evening of 1 December 2006 where visitors can try their hand at painting a coaster or tile free-of-charge.
